The Value of a Lutheran Education
Many times people use the argument that Lutheran schools
simply exist to shield children from the real world. Nothing could be
further from the truth! Lutheran schools exist not to shield children
from the world but to equip
them with the “one thing needful” which will make living as God’s people
in this world possible.
Several
years ago the Youth Research Center did a study entitled “A Study of
Generations”. From the data available, Milo Brekke wrote the book
“How Different Are People Who Attended Lutheran Schools” in which he
compiled information from this study. I would like to share some of this
data with you as we celebrate National Lutheran School Week. As a side
note, the research proved that the more years a person attended a Lutheran
school, the more significant the difference became.
Those who
attend Lutheran schools:
Report more frequent experiences with God in their
personal lives.
Exhibit a more consistent belief in the divinity of
Jesus.
Profess a greater clarity on the way of salvation by
grace through faith in Jesus Christ alone.
Display greater Biblical knowledge.
Repent of their sins sooner.
Engage in a much fuller devotional life.
Do more witnessing to others about Jesus.
Give a higher value to relationships with God and with
other persons.
Show more respect for authority.
Live out stronger tendencies to be more forgiving with
others.
Are less swayed by their peers
Reveal less tendency to be anxious about their faith.
It is my prayer that we here at
Clover Trinity Lutheran Church and Clover Christian School might remember to thank our Lord
for His gift to us of Lutheran education – not only in our words but by
our continued commitment and support for Lutheran education from
pre-school through college. And finally, I pray that we might continue to
work together as a congregation in assisting families in the awesome
responsibility to bring up their children “in the training and
instruction of the Lord” (Eph. 6:4). To God be the glory.
Your Servant in Christ,
Pastor Mark Christ
